EDC Loadout With The Switchblade

I received some great feedback from the last post regarding what an EDC load out for the Switchblade would look like. Rather than go back and retroactively add unplanned/missed content to post 0004, I’ll list out the gear I’d use and pack it all up for what a regular day might look like using the new Cobalt Blue Switchblade pack.

Regular Day Load Out

Gear Selection, with some reasoning.

Electronics:

  • Laptop(or tablet) w/ compact 140W USB-C charger brick & cables.
    • Charger doubles as a phone and radio charger.
  • Charge kit.
    • 20,000mAh charging block with USB A & C ports.
    • Multiple USB cable types that I might need for charging, data transfer, etc.
    • Spare wired headphones.
  • LoRa 915Mhz pocket size radio running Meshtastic.
    • This is a new piece of kit for me. It has the opportunity to be a great secure/encrypted text based emergency radio using mesh networking. This makes the assumption of nearby mesh nodes being online. There will be a follow up blog post about Meshtastic, LoRa and mesh networking in general.

General Purpose:

  • Battle Board Scout.
    • This is a nice notebook and writing utensil holder.
    • Contains a spiral bound Rite In The Rain notebook and a few pens & pencil.
    • Comes with a grease marker and eraser pen for the clear front cover/insert.
  • Eye glasses case.
  • Lightweight hoodie.
  • Keys to reduce bulk in pockets.

Emergency & Health:

  • Small/general purpose ad-hoc first aid kit. Generally just some basics thrown together. (This post makes me realize I need a more compact but dedicated version of my hunting/field kit.
  • Alcohol wipes.
  • Rx container w/ full days worth in case I get delayed somewhere.

Self Defense:

  • Glock 48 MOS w/ spare mag & trigger guard/holster for safe pack pocket storage.(This assumes I’m not conceal carrying on person.)
  • Pocket knife. Either my preferred Benchmade or SpiderCo, depending on what I’m feeling that day.

Loading Up

Here’s where each piece of kit fits into the pack:

  • Laptop in laptop sleeve.
  • Battle Board/notebook in tablet sleeve.
  • Hoodie and charge kit in main pouch.
  • LoRa mesh radio in internal side pouch.
  • Glasses, ad-hoc first aid kit, pocket knife, extra pen, and spare Glock mag in lid compartment.
  • Glock 48 MOS in magnetically closed CCW pocket, held in place by the earlier pictured holster which has the back lined with heavy duty Velco, allowing it to stay secured in the hidden CCW pocket.
